Anuncio de la Lotería: Lesson Plans and Unit

One of my favorite units to teach is the commercial that Spain makes each year to announce the “Gordo” tickets! I love that although it does have some Christmas motifs, it is not specifically about Christmas. Typically, the commercial is also full of interesting cultural comparisons. It is also full of great discussion topics as well. When I saw this commercial, I was excited to create a whole unit to go with it.

I always talk about how if you are planning a big unit, it is so helpful to collaborate with someone else. Not only does it help to divide the work, but it is awesome to see how someone else tackles the same unit. I was so happy when Bethanie Drew collaborated with me on this project!

In this folder, you will find

  • Two levels of stories about the newest commercial (one for an advanced class and one for a level 2/3 class)
  • Lesson plans with tons of extension activities
  • A presentational writing assessment
  • Games! (Would we really be creating a unit without any games?!) And more

It is all FREE- with one ask! If you create a lesson, activity, assessment, game etc based on this, please share it back with us, so we can add it to the folder. We are all truly better together- and our units are better with your collaboration too!

  1. Thank you so much for these amazing resources! I have a question – do I treat the slideshow like a picture talk and follow it up with watching the video? And is this done on the second day? On the lesson plans I’m not seeing where it says to use the slideshow of the stills from the commercial, and when to play the commercial. Day 3 says “finish video”, so does that mean I do some of the stills on day 2, finish them on day 3 and then show the commercial? Thanks so much for the clarification!

    1. Hi! I actually ended up having my students complete a timeline as “notes” while we were going through the slideshow. I need to update the lesson plan to reflect that. I do that as day 3, and we watched it all in one day!

  2. ¡Mil gracias! I introduced la Lotería last week and my students and I have been enjoying the supplements for this year’s anuncio the last two days. I truly appreciate the variety and depth of activities you’ve provided so generously.

I noticed a typo in the Student Activity Sheet A (find the errors) – “La alarma soñó” should be “sonó”. If you or Bethanie have time to correct it, I would love to redownload it. Thank you!
