I just saw these two maps of the US. The first map shows the most common language spoken in your state other than English. It is mostly Spanish, but closer to Canada (and in Louisiana) there are states where French is the second most popular language. This map is perfect for Spanish and French teachers- German too if you have a lot of North Dakota fans. The next map shows the third most popular language in each state. I was surprised that in Maryland- our most popular language is French, and in Virginia it is Korean. Also there are many states with a lot of German speakers. How perfect is this for the typical “why take a foreign language” discussion!
